Scott Murphy Gets “Independence” Nomination
Scott Murphy has been given the NY Independence Party nomination. Murphy who votes 90% with Nancy Pelosi is hardly an “independent.” A primary for the nomination with Chris Gibson would have let registered Independence Party voters decide, but the party executives didn’t seem tobe interested in that. People register for the INDEPENDENCE party because they have problems with the two major parties, this move hardly seems to honor that ideal by simply nominating an incumbant from a major party.
As John Miller, chairman of the Columbia County Independence Party noted, Murphy came to the 20th Congressional District in 2006. Before that, he lived in New York City and spent much of his life in Missouri. It’s really hard to imagine how a man who spent so little time in this area really understands us enough to represent us.
It’s laughable for a generic Pelosi rubber stamp to be running as an “independent.” I’m disappointed in the Independence Party for selecting Murphy based on his record, but if nothing else they could have at least allowed a primary to take place so the people could decide.
